Young chess prodigy accused of assault after striking woman in a fit of anger following defeat in St. Louis tournament

In a championship tournament in St. Louis, 17-year-old chess grandmaster Christopher Yoo was charged with assault and expelled after striking a female videographer when he lost a match against Fabiano Caruana. Yoo crumpled his scoresheet and hit the videographer from behind, leading to his expulsion from the tournament due to violations of the code of conduct. He was also banned from the Saint Louis Chess Club and had his results from rounds 1-5 annulled. Yoo issued a public apology, expressing remorse for his actions and accepting the consequences, as well as seeking therapy for his mental well-being. His parents also publicly apologized and stated that the incident was out of character for their son, who has achieved notable success in chess at a young age. Yoo became the youngest American master at 9 and the youngest International Master at 12. The incident has sparked concerns about his mental well-being, and efforts are being made to ensure that such behavior does not happen again in the future.
