All affected Quarter Pounders were removed from restaurants by October 22nd. One person has died and 27 have been hospitalized, with at least two developing a rare kidney illness. A family in Colorado revealed their daughter developed kidney damage after eating a Quarter Pounder. The true number of cases is believed to be higher than reported. Thirteen states have reported cases, with Taylor Farms Colorado Springs identified as the source of contaminated onions. McDonald’s has stopped sourcing onions from the company and will offer the Quarter Pounder without onions in affected stores.
