OpenAI has officially released Sora, a powerful AI video generation model that can create videos from text prompts, animate images, or remix videos in new styles. The model, first previewed in February, has been improved to be faster and cheaper for broader use.
Two new features stand out in this release. The first is Storyboard, which allows users to create multiple AI-generated videos and assemble them on a timeline. The second is a feed where users can post their Sora-generated videos, see the prompts behind them, tweak them, and find inspiration.
Sora offers various tools such as generating videos from text prompts, changing styles with Remix, and assembling clips with Storyboard. Users can apply style presets, trim, loop, and customize their videos.
To use Sora, users must subscribe to OpenAI’s premium plans, ChatGPT Plus or ChatGPT Pro, which include access to other OpenAI products. ChatGPT Plus subscribers can create 5-second videos up to 720p resolution and 50 videos per month. ChatGPT Pro users can create longer, higher resolution videos, up to 1080p resolution and 20 seconds in duration. They can also generate multiple variations of a video at once.
Both subscription levels offer videos in three aspect ratios and can create unlimited “relaxed” videos, which are queued to generate during low site traffic. With Sora, users have a powerful tool to create unique, AI-generated videos with ease and creativity.
