Multiple vehicles involved in a car crash on Interstate 91 Northbound between Exits 5 and 6 in Rockingham and Westminster have resulted in a closure of that section of the highway. The crash was later declared a Mass Casualty Incident by the Rockingham Fire Department, although the exact number of casualties and vehicles involved remains unclear.
The closure began shortly after 10 a.m. Saturday morning, with I-91 South also being temporarily closed to allow for landing of a helicopter for crash response. The Southbound Lane was later reopened, but Vermont State Police are warning travelers to expect delays as the situation is resolved.
As of now, it is uncertain when the highway will reopen and further details about the crash are awaited. Vermont State Police and VTrans have been unavailable for comments at this time, but efforts are being made to gather more information regarding the number of vehicles involved in the crash and any reported injuries.
Authorities are urging caution and patience from drivers in the area, and further updates will be provided as soon as they become available. The cause of the crash and the extent of damage and injuries from it are still being investigated.
