Vermont’s decision to force female athletes to play against biological males, disregarding safety concerns, has resulted in one Christian school being banned from participating in all state-sponsored sports. The Mid Vermont Christian School’s girls’ basketball team forfeited a playoff game against Long Trail School in 2023 due to the inclusion of a 6-foot-1-inch player born male on the opposing team. Concerned for the safety of their female athletes, the school refused to risk potential injuries, as incidents of biological males injuring female players have been reported.
The Vermont Principals’ Association permanently banned Mid Vermont Christian from state-sponsored sports, claiming the school violated state law by not recognizing boys as girls and discriminating against a boy who identifies as a girl. Despite two years of legal battles, the school awaits an appellate court ruling. The decision by the VPA is considered radical, with the organization prioritizing transgender ideology over religious beliefs, safety, and biological distinctions.
Furthermore, Mid Vermont Christian was ruled ineligible for public funds through a state program supporting private schools due to their refusal to accept the belief that boys can become girls. The school, which has participated in Vermont sports for nearly 30 years, is now excluded from competition to uphold the principle that girls’ sports should be reserved for girls. This controversy highlights a conflict between truth and ideology, with female high school athletes ultimately bearing the consequences.
