A tragic incident in New Haven, Vermont has left a 20-year-old woman dead and a 16-year-old teen facing serious charges. Brayden Hemingway, of Waltham, crashed his vehicle on North Street after noticing a sheriff’s deputy following him. Hemingway, who was under suspension at the time, reportedly drove at a high speed to avoid police, causing the car to flip over into a ditch. His passenger, Jaida Cram, suffered critical injuries during the crash and was later pronounced dead at the hospital. Hemingway was found to be under the influence of marijuana at the time of the incident.
The Addison County State’s Attorney’s Office is charging Hemingway as an adult for grossly negligent operation with death resulting, DUI with death resulting, and second-degree homicide. Hemingway appeared in court and pleaded not guilty to the charges, with his attorney arguing for his release due to his age. The judge set bail at $25,000, with the option for release upon payment of 10%, or $2,500.
This tragic event serves as a reminder of the dangers of driving under the influence and the risks associated with reckless behavior behind the wheel. The community mourns the loss of Jaida Cram and awaits further developments in the case as Hemingway’s legal proceedings continue.
