Lake Placid Marathon Thrills Competitors Despite Rainy Conditions

LAKE PLACID — On a rainy Sunday morning, the annual Lake Placid Marathon and Half attracted over 1,000 runners, showcasing their endurance through the challenging courses. Stowe, Vermont’s Adam Quinn emerged victorious in the men’s marathon with an impressive time of 2 hours, 37 minutes, and 43 seconds, just shy of the record set in 2006. “One day I’ll get that record,” Quinn expressed optimistically.

Quinn’s win was part of a field that included Jac Guerra from Connecticut and John Cho from New Jersey, securing second and third places, respectively. The women’s marathon saw Burlington’s Brynn Orban-Salley finish first at 3:19:42, marking both her marathon victory and personal best.

While rain is typically unwelcome, Quinn noted, “It’s a perfect Adirondack day to run fast.” However, other competitors felt the strain of Lake Placid’s notorious hills. Jenna Wilson, who triumphed in the women’s half marathon with a time of 1:25:31, remarked on the unexpected difficulty of the course.

The men’s half marathon was won by Rye’s Ian Tibbals in 1:15:12, despite falling short of his goal. The 10K race saw an exciting finish with Shawn Powers breaking the course record at 34:12.

Notably, Elsa Yaccarini of Quebec clinched the women’s 10K title with a time of 45:53, crossing the finish alongside her boyfriend, Hubert Renaud, who placed fourth overall. The festivities celebrated not only the physical feats but also personal milestones, as many participants shared the event with family and friends, fostering a spirit of community.

This year’s event recorded 327 finishers in the full marathon, 628 in the half marathon, and 109 in the 10K, solidifying Lake Placid as a prime destination for endurance sports enthusiasts.
