Don Allard to be Inducted into Vermont Principals’ Association Hall of Fame
Montpelier, VT – Don Allard, a celebrated multi-sport athlete from BFA-St. Albans, will be inducted into the Vermont Principals’ Association (VPA) Hall of Fame on May 16. The announcement follows a correction regarding an earlier report mistakenly identifying his induction as part of the Vermont Sports Hall of Fame.
Allard’s athletic prowess emerged in the late 1950s, where he played a pivotal role in the renowned Bobwhite football team, leading them to an undefeated season and state championships in 1958 and 1959. As a tight end, he contributed significantly alongside fellow VPA Hall of Famer Ollie Dunlap.
In addition to football, Allard demonstrated exceptional talent in track and field, winning the Vermont State Discus Championship in 1960 with an impressive throw of 146 feet 11 inches—a record that remains unbeaten at BFA-St. Albans. He was also a member of the state champion medley relay team and excelled as a finalist in the 100-yard dash.
The induction ceremony for the VPA Hall of Fame class of 2025 will take place at the Capitol Plaza Hotel and Conference Center in Montpelier. Guests can look forward to a social hour at 5 p.m., a buffet dinner at 6 p.m., and the official induction ceremony at 6:45 p.m. Tickets are available for $55 each and can be purchased via the VPA website or by contacting the VPA office at (802) 229-0547.
Following his high school achievements, Allard earned a football scholarship to Michigan State University, where he quickly gained recognition in the Big 10. However, an injury curtailed his athletic career. Transitioning from sports, Allard became an educator, coach, and entrepreneur, inspiring young athletes throughout his life.
