Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital Launches $22 Million Expansion Project
ST. JOHNSBURY, Vt. — As the heavy construction season kicks off, Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital (NVRH) is embarking on a significant $22 million expansion project aimed at enhancing its emergency services, pharmacy, and laboratory facilities.
The project includes a much-anticipated expansion of the emergency room, which has become critical as patient volume continues to rise. To facilitate the construction, patients are now encouraged to use the new entrance to the emergency department located on the side of the building. Additionally, new parking spaces have been created to accommodate emergency vehicles, ensuring that access remains unhindered.
Aimee Crew-Lyon, the Chief Nursing Officer, expressed enthusiasm about the upgrades, stating, “We have outgrown our footprint. We need more space, as we are seeing an increasing number of patients. Our goal is to provide exceptional care.” She acknowledged the current challenges, noting, “Right now we are in transition. If you go into the ED, you’re going to see equipment everywhere. The patients’ rooms are pretty small.”
Despite the disruption, officials assure the community that the enhancements will ultimately lead to improved service and care. The construction is projected to continue until 2027, indicating a long-term commitment to addressing the healthcare needs of the Northeastern Vermont area.
As the project progresses, NVRH is dedicated to maintaining a focus on patient care, while managing the complexities that come with significant renovations.
