Christina Applegate Mourns the Passing of Her Father on Podcast
In an emotional episode of her podcast MeSsy, Christina Applegate opened up about the recent passing of her father, Robert "Bobby" Applegate, who died at the age of 82. Though she didn’t disclose specific details about his death, Christina revealed that he had passed a week prior, and her emotions were still raw.
"This is the first time I’ve really cried," she shared, expressing the impact of her loss while navigating her busy life. "We knew he was going to die. Is that an excuse for not feeling?" she pondered, acknowledging the complexity of grief.
Christina, who has faced a tumultuous relationship with her father—due to their estrangement following his divorce from her mother Nancy Priddy when she was just five months old—managed to reconnect with him as an adult. The two even featured together on TLC’s Who Do You Think You Are? in 2013. Reflecting on their relationship, she stated, "He wasn’t part of the lessons part of life," but acknowledged the positive influences he provided through her siblings and stepmother.
Adding to her challenges, Christina is currently battling Multiple Sclerosis (MS), a neurologic disorder that results in painful symptoms. Diagnosed in August 2021 while filming Dead To Me, she continues to share her journey with co-host Jamie-Lynn Sigler, also an MS sufferer, through their podcast.
In a previous episode, Christina discussed the daily agony caused by MS, including sharp pains that have greatly affected her daily activities. This latest heartache comes as she strives to navigate her health battles, reflecting her incredible resilience in the face of adversity.
