One Hive Foundation Awards $1.7 Million to Boost Urgent Pollinator Conservation Efforts

One Hive Foundation Commits Over $1.7 Million to Pollinator Conservation in Vermont

Burlington, VT – In response to alarming honeybee losses and threats to native pollinators, the One Hive Foundation has announced a transformative investment of over $1.7 million in grants aimed at supporting pollinator conservation efforts across Vermont. This significant funding will support ten organizations in initiatives designed to combat the ongoing pollinator crisis over the next one to three years.

The initiatives, guided by recommendations from the Vermont Pollinator Working Group, focus on critical areas such as pesticide reduction, habitat restoration, and public education. Nationally, honeybee populations have plummeted, with U.S. beekeepers reporting average colony losses of 62% in early 2025, significantly impacting agriculture. Last year’s data indicated that Vermont beekeepers lost a third of their colonies, highlighting the urgency of the situation.

Gioia Perugini, Philanthropic Advisor to the One Hive Foundation, emphasized the importance of immediate action, stating, “This level of loss is deeply concerning… it is critical to accelerate investment in science-backed, collaborative solutions.” In 2022, a Vermont Center for Ecostudies study revealed that 55 of the state’s 350 native bee species urgently require conservation efforts.

Among the funded projects are the creation of pollinator-friendly farming practices, community-led habitat restoration initiatives, and educational programs targeting youth. Notable grantees include the Vermont Center for Ecostudies, which will launch multimedia campaigns, and the Northeast Organic Farming Association of Vermont, focusing on pollinator-friendly organic farming education.

With these strategic investments, the One Hive Foundation aims to lead by example, fostering a collaborative approach to bolster pollinator health and ensuring a sustainable agricultural future for Vermont and beyond. For more information, visit onehivefoundation.org.
