Greenfield High School Alum Owen Phelps Wraps Up Baseball Career at Castleton University
Greenfield, MA – Owen Phelps, a standout pitcher and Greenfield High School alumnus, concluded his baseball career at Castleton University in Vermont last week. Throughout the spring season, the graduate student showcased his skills on the mound, appearing in 15 games and pitching a total of 30 innings. Over his collegiate career, Phelps amassed 85 innings, finishing with a respectable 6-5 record, four saves, and a career ERA of 4.83. Castleton’s Spartans concluded their season with a record of 13-25, with their final game ending in a defeat against Rhode Island College on May 2.
In local youth baseball action, Wednesday’s games highlighted impressive performances across various teams. In a match-up, Pipione’s Sport Shop secured a narrow 5-1 victory over Booska’s Flooring, thanks to Owen Williams, who excelled on the mound. Meanwhile, Gilmore & Farrell Insurance dominated Smitty’s with a notable 9-0 win, highlighted by Phil Brodeur’s 13 strikeouts.
In Junior Division play, Pipione’s edged out Pristine Orientals 2-1, while the Elks Club handed Sandri a 9-3 defeat, with Sydney Brown’s standout performance. Adult softball leagues also had thrilling matches, with JRB defeating Adam & Eve 14-13 in a close finish, and Common Ground Fitness overpowering The Gremlins 19-4.
