Grand Isle Hosts Family Fishing Festival on Free Fishing Day
Grand Isle, VT – This Saturday, June 14, Vermont will celebrate its annual Summer Free Fishing Day, offering residents and non-residents the unique opportunity to fish without a license. The day is especially notable as it coincides with the Grand Isle Family Fishing Festival and the opening of the regular bass fishing season in the state.
Interim Commissioner of Fish and Wildlife, Andrea Shortsleeve, emphasized the day’s significance, stating, “Free Fishing Day is a great opportunity for experienced anglers to mentor novices. A day by the water can create lifelong memories and provide healthy, local food.”
The Grand Isle Family Fishing Festival will take place at the Ed Weed Fish Culture Station from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Tailored for families and young, novice anglers, the festival will feature a variety of activities. Participants can enjoy basic fishing instruction, learn about fish biology and identification, and partake in crafts, including lure making. Most excitingly, attendees will have the chance to catch trout in a stocked hatchery pond. No prior experience is required, as Vermont Fish and Wildlife will provide rods, reels, and bait.
Simultaneously, the state’s regular bass fishing season opens, marking the beginning of prime bass fishing action in the northeastern U.S., which runs from June through November.
