Vermont Governor Signs Bill to Make Cocktails-To-Go Permanent
Montpelier, VT – In a decisive move to bolster local businesses and enhance consumer convenience, Governor Phil Scott has signed H.339, a bill that permanently allows cocktails to-go across Vermont. The new legislation, enacted late yesterday evening, signifies a commitment to supporting the state’s hospitality sector and adapting to evolving consumer preferences.
Previously, Vermont’s cocktails-to-go initiative operated under a temporary measure set to expire on July 1, 2025. This law, now made permanent, positions Vermont among 30 states plus the District of Columbia that have embraced similar legislation since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Cocktails to-go are here to stay in Vermont,” stated Andy Deloney, senior vice president at the Distilled Spirits Council of the United States. Deloney highlighted the significant boost to revenue for local bars and restaurants, alongside the growing consumer demand for the convenience these options provide. He commended both the legislative body and Governor Scott for their support of local enterprises and consumers.
The distilled spirits industry emphasizes responsible consumption, reminding adults that cocktails to-go are intended solely for home use and must comply with existing alcohol consumption laws.
With this legislative action, Vermont joins a list of states including Arizona, Colorado, Florida, and Texas, all of which have made the temporary, pandemic-era measures a permanent hallmark of their alcohol regulations. Proponents of the law anticipate that this change will continue to support struggling businesses while aligning Vermont with national trends in alcohol service.
As the state moves forward, the approval of H.339 is a clear indication of Vermont’s dedication to fostering local economies and accommodating modern consumer habits.
