Ludlow Rotary Club Delivers Joy to Young Readers at Ludlow Elementary
LUDLOW, Vt. – The atmosphere was filled with excitement at Ludlow Elementary School as first-grade students were presented with personalized books, courtesy of the Ludlow Rotary Club (LRC). The joy on their faces was unmistakable, as teacher Lora Miele noted, “The children were thrilled and couldn’t wait to bring them home to share with their families.”
For years, the LRC has been dedicated to promoting literacy through its Literacy Improvement Project, creating custom books for students in local schools including Mount Holly, Ludlow, Cavendish, and Plymouth. Miele fondly recalled her own children receiving similar books over 20 years ago, stating, “I still enjoy giving it a read now and again.”
In addition to this initiative, the LRC collaborates with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, a renowned program providing free, high-quality books to children from birth to age five, regardless of their family’s financial situation. Each month, families receive a new, age-appropriate book designed to foster a love of reading and encourage quality family time around shared stories.
Parents interested in enrolling their preschool children in the Imagination Library can find registration cards at Ludlow’s Fletcher Memorial Library, where children’s books are displayed prominently. The program places high importance on privacy, ensuring that all personal information is kept confidential.
Through these enriching programs, the Ludlow Rotary Club continues to make a meaningful impact on literacy in the community, one book at a time.
