Square Unveils Square AI: A Conversational Assistant for Sellers
Square has announced the launch of Square AI, a conversational artificial intelligence assistant designed to help sellers navigate its business technology platform. Now in public beta, this feature is available to all U.S. sellers and is integrated directly into the Square Dashboard.
Willem Avé, global head of product at Square, emphasized that the goal is to provide sellers with a virtual employee equipped with in-depth knowledge of their business. Square AI can respond to questions about the platform by leveraging its comprehensive knowledge base to deliver step-by-step guidance. Additionally, it utilizes seller-specific data to offer insights into sales performance, customer patterns, and staff efficiency.
This capability allows sellers to make informed decisions, such as optimizing employee hours, identifying slow-moving inventory, and recognizing top-selling products and customers. Square plans to enhance these features throughout the year, underscoring the company’s commitment to promoting data-driven exploration for sellers.
Data protection is a top priority, as the AI is available only to account owners and administrators. Square ensures that sensitive information is never shared with external model providers, maintaining strict data security protocols. “With Square AI, sellers can trust that their data is protected by the same security infrastructure that safeguards billions of Square transactions,” Avé stated.
Square AI joins a suite of AI-powered tools already available on the platform, including AI-generated product descriptions and website backgrounds. Meanwhile, Square’s parent company, Block, is developing an internal AI initiative named "goose," aiming to eventually serve as a personal CFO for consumers and a COO for sellers. Block CEO Jack Dorsey highlighted the strategic vision during a recent earnings call, showcasing the growing integration of AI into business solutions.
