5th Annual Lace Up for Laura Memorial 5K and Kids’ Fun Run Celebrates Community and Scholarships
WEATHERSFIELD, Vt. – The Lace Up for Laura Memorial 5K and Kids’ Fun Run returns this June 28, marking its fifth year of honoring the legacy of Laura Cody McNaughton, who passed away in 2018. This community-focused event not only promotes physical and mental well-being in nature but also supports local education through the Laura Cody McNaughton Memorial Fund.
Since its inception, the race has raised over $50,000, and this year, it is proud to award $12,000 in scholarships to two exceptional graduating seniors.
Maya Rentas, a standout from Bellows Falls Union High School, is the recipient of the $10,000 Laura Cody McNaughton Scholarship. Rentas plans to major in biochemistry at the University of Vermont while pursuing a premedical track. An active leader, she has made significant contributions to her school through various roles, including founding Students of Color United. Expressing gratitude, Rentas said, “This scholarship has lifted a great burden off my family. I am very excited for this opportunity and to be a part of Laura and her story.”
Camden Gramling from Springfield High School receives the $2,000 Achievement Award. A three-sport athlete and president of the National Honor Society, Gramling maintains a perfect GPA and works as a patient care attendant at Mt. Ascutney Hospital. She will study public health at the University of Vermont, aspiring to become a physician assistant.
