Vermont Chef Launches Fundraiser for Culinary TV Pilot Featuring Local Flavors
Colchester, VT – Chef Deven Bora, the owner of Early Bird Catering, is seeking community support through a GoFundMe campaign to produce a pilot episode for Eat This TV, an emerging online culinary network. Bora, 30, has dedicated nearly 15 years to the food industry, starting from humble beginnings in fast food to running his own catering business that champions local cuisine.
Bora’s culinary journey began at age 16, and he gained invaluable experience in various restaurants before enrolling in the Community Kitchen Academy, where he learned essential culinary skills while addressing food waste and insecurity. A 2022 University of Vermont study revealed that two out of five Vermonters faced food insecurity, sparking Bora’s desire to give back to the community.
Since launching Early Bird Catering in March 2022, he has focused on sourcing seasonal produce from local farms and creating diverse menus. He caters small events and has even worked with local army bases, allowing him to establish a physical location in Colchester. His business underscores the significance of local ingredients, especially with a new fall menu tailored for weddings.
The opportunity to film the pilot with Eat This TV came as a surprise to Bora, who thought it was potentially a scam. However, after confirming the details, he embraced the chance, especially since the network will cover production costs. Bora will need to finance the test kitchen, ingredients, and travel expenses, thus prompting his GoFundMe initiative.
With a deadline of early July to secure funding, Bora is excited to infuse his dishes with Vermont’s local flavors, enhancing the show’s appeal. If successful, the pilot could lead to a 12-episode series, spotlighting the rich culinary landscape of Vermont.
