Press Release: Upcoming Golf Tournament Supports Veterans Memorial Park
The 6th Annual Veterans Memorial Park of Jackson County Golf Tournament will take place on Friday, July 25, at the Plantation Pointe course located within Goose Pond Colony Resort in Scottsboro. This important event aims to raise funds for the Veterans Memorial Park, positioned at 1616 Heroes Dr., Scottsboro, ensuring its continued operation and maintenance.
Debbie Ashburn, Vice President of Membership Services & Investor Relations at Mountain Lakes Chamber of Commerce, emphasized the tournament’s significance: "100% of the proceeds go directly toward the park, helping to keep it a place of pride and remembrance for future generations." The sole fundraising event held each year, the tournament supports recent additions to the park, including the recently dedicated Fallen Soldier Memorial, a poignant bronze statue symbolizing the sacrifice made by soldiers in battle.
The park serves not only as a memorial but also as a historical learning site, engaging local students in U.S. military history. Over the past year, around 160 students from five different schools participated in guided tours led by veterans.
The tournament format is a 4-Person Scramble, with registration fees set at $100 per person or $400 per team. This includes range balls, lunch, drinks, snacks, and a mulligan package. A new feature for this year offers veterans an additional mulligan package. The tournament promises cash prizes and door prizes for participants, with check-in starting at 10:30 a.m. and shotgun start at noon.
Jim Olyniec, President of the Board of Directors for the Veterans Memorial Park, is inviting sponsors for door prizes and tournament contributions. For registration and sponsorship information, visit the Veterans Memorial Park of Jackson County Facebook page or contact Olyniec at 256-599-3457. Applications must be submitted by July 16.
