PC Construction Wins CMAA Award for UVM Athletic Complex Renovation
South Burlington, VT – PC Construction has been honored by the New England chapter of the Construction Management Association of America (CMAA) for its extensive renovation of the University of Vermont’s athletic complex. The accolade was presented at CMAA’s annual awards luncheon in Boston on June 4.
The ambitious $58 million project, which commenced in June 2019, spanned four years and unfolded in three phases. Initially conceived as a 96,000-square-foot arena with a 3,000-seat capacity, the project underwent a major redesign due to the COVID-19 pandemic, altering its focus toward enhancing the university’s health and wellness facilities.
The first phase involved significant structural upgrades to Gutterson Field House, enhancing its unique barreled roof, adding a new media loft, and modernizing utility and electrical services. The second phase saw comprehensive renovations to UVM’s wellness facilities, introducing a new multipurpose athletic court, a bouldering wall, strength and conditioning spaces, and revamped hockey locker rooms. The project culminated in the final phase, which brought over 11,000 square feet of additions including a state-of-the-art hydrotherapy center, office suites for hockey coaches, a modern sports television suite, and academic spaces for student-athletes.
PC Construction’s efforts impacted 80% of the athletic campus while maintaining operational integrity throughout construction, necessitating numerous relocations and temporary setups for athletes and coaches.
