Authorities are intensifying the manhunt for Vance Boelter, the suspect in the politically motivated shootings that resulted in the deaths of Minnesota State Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband, as well as severe injuries to State Sen. John Hoffman and his wife. Boelter, 57, is described as 6-foot-1, with brown hair, often wearing a cowboy hat and a dark long-sleeve shirt that resembles law enforcement attire. He is believed to have impersonated law enforcement to access the victims’ homes.
A vehicle and cowboy hat linked to Boelter were discovered in Sibley County, prompting warnings for residents to secure their homes and vehicles. Minnesota officials, including Governor Tim Walz, characterized the attacks as politically motivated, highlighting the urgency in apprehending Boelter, who is considered armed and dangerous.
Boelter is married and has five children. His wife was stopped by police during the manhunt, but no further questions ensued regarding their vehicle. Additionally, reports indicate Boelter has professional ties to Africa, having worked in agriculture and spoken at church events there. He has participated in initiatives to assist farmers and fishermen in the Democratic Republic of Congo but is disavowed by Minnesota Africans United.
Boelter’s background includes a recent position at two funeral homes and a 30-year career in the food industry. His former roommate described him as a loving family man, expressing disbelief over the violent actions. Prior to his actions, Boelter sent a farewell message to his roommate, indicating distress and regret.
The FBI has offered a $50,000 reward for information leading to his capture, urging anyone who sees him to contact law enforcement immediately.
