Multiple locations in Kyiv experienced severe attacks overnight, damaging residential buildings, educational institutions, and critical infrastructure. A ballistic missile directly hit a nine-story residential building in Kyiv’s Solomianskyi district, resulting in significant destruction, including the complete collapse of an entire section. Emergency responders worked tirelessly to rescue individuals trapped in the rubble, including an elderly woman who was carefully lowered from a window.
Witness Viktoriia Vovchenko described the scene as horrific, witnessing the traumatic aftermath that involved injured elderly residents and children. Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko confirmed that 14 individuals were killed in Kyiv and one in Odesa, with nearly 100 others injured across Kyiv, Odesa, and Chernihiv. Notably, a 62-year-old U.S. citizen was among the deceased in Kyiv, succumbing to shrapnel wounds.
In response to the escalating conflict, Ukraine has been conducting drone strikes deep within Russian territory; however, these attacks have not resulted in similar civilian casualties as those suffered in Kyiv. Russia’s Defense Ministry reported intercepting and destroying 147 Ukrainian drones over its territory, including regions near Moscow, throughout the night.
The ongoing violence has left residents reeling, prompting calls for an end to the relentless assaults on civilians, as echoed by local leaders and witnesses alike.
