Derek Dixon, an actor and screenwriter, has filed a lawsuit against media mogul Tyler Perry, accusing him of sexual harassment and seeking $260 million in damages. Dixon claims that Perry made unwanted advances and attempted to cover up an alleged assault by offering him an acting opportunity. The lawsuit states that Perry’s wealth has fostered a belief that he can manipulate situations to get what he wants, including sexual relationships.
According to the complaint, Perry first contacted Dixon in 2019, offering him a role after Dixon worked for an events company. After inviting Dixon to his home in Georgia, Perry allegedly groped him while Dixon was in bed, despite repeated refusals from Dixon. Following this incident, Perry reportedly texted Dixon persistently about his sexual life and pressured him regarding his preferences, creating a dynamic where Dixon felt his job security depended on maintaining a relationship with Perry.
The lawsuit also alleges instances of groping in 2020, including an incident during a cast trip to the Bahamas. Despite the alleged assaults, Dixon reportedly felt compelled to accept support from Perry for his career, struggling with whether to go public with his claims or to accept more financial opportunities. Although Perry purchased the rights to a script Dixon had written, the lawsuit claims he had no intention of producing it, using the project as leverage.
Ultimately, Dixon declined a writing position offered by Perry and filed a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. Perry’s lawyer has labeled the allegations as fabricated and characterized Dixon’s actions as an attempt to extort money. The outcome of his EEOC complaint remains unclear.
