Father and Son Sentenced for Drug Trafficking Operation Funding Luxury Lifestyle
Cincinnati, OH – WKRC — Stephen Wheeler, 49, and his son Romello Wheeler, 30, have been sentenced for their involvement in a large-scale drug trafficking organization that supplied fentanyl, methamphetamine, cocaine, and marijuana, thereby financing a lavish lifestyle, including front-row Super Bowl tickets.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Ohio, the duo operated their drug trade from July 2022 to February 2023. They resided in a luxury downtown Cincinnati apartment costing over $4,000 monthly, while renting an additional property for $1,000 to facilitate their operations.
During an extensive investigation spanning eight months, authorities noted the defendants’ extravagant lifestyle, highlighted by their use of nine high-end vehicles, extensive travel across the U.S. and internationally, and purchasing premium tickets for the Super Bowl Halftime Show in Los Angeles.
Law enforcement officers seized a significant cache during the operation, including 1,317.9 grams of fentanyl, 1,678.3 grams of pure crystal methamphetamine, 962.5 grams of cocaine, and approximately $190,000 in cash. Also recovered were more than $395,000 worth of jewelry and a loaded armor-piercing pistol.
Both men pleaded guilty to various drug trafficking charges, including conspiring to distribute significant amounts of fentanyl, methamphetamine, and cocaine. Stephen Wheeler was sentenced to 180 months in prison, while Romello received a 150-month sentence. A third accomplice, Mikelle Hill, was sentenced to four months for her role in assisting the operation.
This case underscores law enforcement’s commitment to cracking down on drug trafficking and the dangerous networks that fuel substance abuse in the community.
