Vermont State University Graduates Record Number of Nurses Amid Growing Demand
Randolph, VT – June 23, 2025 – Vermont State University (VTSU) proudly celebrated the graduation of 414 nursing students this year, significantly contributing to the state’s healthcare workforce. With a staggering 713 students enrolled in its nursing program, 90% of whom are Vermont residents, VTSU is addressing the pressing shortage of licensed nurses across all 14 counties in the state.
VTSU President Dave Bergh emphasized the critical importance of the program, stating, “Vermont needs more nurses, and VTSU is delivering them.” The university’s nursing program encompasses credentials ranging from certificates to master’s degrees, offered both online and at 12 locations, making it accessible and affordable for Vermonters.
Approximately 92% of VTSU graduates took the NCLEX examination for licensure in Vermont, achieving impressive pass rates: a perfect 100% for Registered Nurses (RNs), 92% for Associate Degree students, and a 99% pass rate for Practical Nursing graduates. Graduates are poised to make impactful contributions to their local health ecosystems.
The nursing program features a unique laddered credential approach, allowing students to earn progressive credentials: starting with the Practical Nursing (PN) certificate, followed by the Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN), and culminating in a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). New online offerings also include a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) for aspiring clinical leaders and educators.
Recent graduate Jennifer Spika, who transitioned from a career in architecture to nursing, shared her experience: “The program’s strong reputation and supportive community made my decision easy.
